A day or so ago, WordPress put this post up.
Having already failed on the postaday challenge, I was instantly drawn to the idea of a ‘blogging buddy’. It’s my mission this year to keep this site fresh and sharing the experience may well help a great deal.
The idea is that you team up with someone who has similar interests and then set about the postaday/postaweek challenge together, inspiring each other with content and, more importantly, inspiring each other to continue doing something which can so easily be dropped.
I did as WordPress suggested and put my name forward, as did literally hundreds of other people. My reply was suddenly lost in a sea of text; fellow bloggers posting their likes, dislikes, preferred topics and gentle requests for someone to help them along. I quickly forgot about it. No one would spot a lone poster wanting to increase the music and tech content on his blog.
Then, within a couple of days, I had an email from a like-minded soul who had spotted my request. He too was into music production, technology and all things geeky. Suddenly, I had my blogging buddy.
That man is Chris, from Salt Lake City, Utah. Take a look at at his blog here.
Our goals seem to have stuck a chord (if you’ll excuse the pun) and I look forward to seeing how both our sites develop in 2011.

A blogging buddy sounds like a great idea. I think I’ll have to look into that. Good luck with the new buddy and the blogging.

Very intriguing–I’ve been wondering a lot about more communal approaches.
Good luck to both of you and your blogs! 😀 Have fun!!!
@Sarah Have you tried using a standalone client to write your blog posts? I sometimes use Windows Live Writer when I’m working on something that I’m not sure about how to frame my post. It’s a separate program that only needs an internet connection when it pushes your post to your blog. I’m sure there’s Mac equivalents also if you’re not a PC user like me.
wish you great success with your blogging buddy!!!
wow that’s nice hope to find my own blogging buddy too :p ahm how to get one????
congrats. visit bleditor.com to become even better!
Congrats on being FP’d. I’m glad the blogging buddy worked for you, although it seems like yours is feeling a little jaded right now.

That’s a great story – I missed the WordPress announcement you speak of. It makes a lot of sense to me that having a writing/blogging partner will help you to succeed in your mission. Like Winnie the Pooh said, “It’s so much friendlier with two!”
Good luck with your mission.
Problem with blogging and comments. The phrase not being able to see the wood for the trees is so apt. If anyone is interested in work or call-centre drudgery… I’d be happy for a blogging buddy too.
Hi, I’m happy for you, although I must see it to believe it. I believe the buddy, don’t get me wrong, I’m talking about the post-a-day thing for a year, and meaningful posts that still keep you happy for writing them.
Good luck.
Hi, i have exactly same goald you have. thats keep up my blog by similar buddies!! 😛 Congratulation for your freshyl bloged!
Do I detect a budding bromance?
blogging buddies rock! I’ve come across some pretty crazy people: i have no idea who they are and yet at the same time i seem to know exactly who they are.
hey! guys haha so i totally know what you mean and i wish i had a blogging buddy any ideas on how to get one?
Opps I did it bacwards; I got the buddy then the topic lol but congradulation on finding your buddy and being freshly pressed. Hope your blog grows well in 2011
I like this idea!
Kudos! You impressed Freshly Pressed for giving it a bit of wellie and got a blogging buddy or two out of it. Good for you… 🙂
Have a fab year!
Elizabeth
Hey! Congratulations on Freshly Pressed and your blogging buddy. Here’s to a truly inspiring and productive and educational relationship! Wow! You are cool! Loved your kind words in the comments about WordPress! It’s incredible when someone appreciates the efforts of the platform we all use (every) day and the efforts of those behind it! Best of all to you! Peace, T.
hey..nice site new at the whole blogging thing but i appreciate this site its nice.
اشكركم جزيل الشكر
Congratulations on being freshly pressed first of all.
Secondly, yes I think the idea of a blogging buddy is great for a lot of people. On the other hand my problem has never been what to write about, as every day I am plagued with too many ideas. It’s the time! I live in a rural area and my connection is less than stellar, so it’s a serious commitment to time. Just getting a photo to load is a monumental effort.
I would blog twice a day if the time it took weren’t an issue.
Keep up the good work!
Sarah
The blogging buddy thing really does help! Good luck with your blogging this year!!
Nice, a good place to learn about blogging. I recently started as well, please help support my cause on my site under blogs. http://www.beatncakes.com/
interesting article, is the first entered in this site and will not be the last
Greetings
Oh I would love a blogging buddy! I’m glad you found a kindred spirit, they certainly can make you feel a little more… sane?
If you have the time, stop by my blog!

Adios amigo!
Great post, looking forward to the next one. ~SW
That’s a good idea. All the best!
Wow, thank you all for the replies. I’ll do my best to respond directly to a few tomorrow morning.
It’s been quite an overwhelming reaction to this post and I’ve clearly struck a chord with fellow bloggers. We’re all in this for the same thing after all!
WordPress is a fantastic blogging platform and brilliantly supported by WordPress themselves.
I encourage everyone to sign up to their latest news posts – it’s how Chris and I came across this and how I ultimately ended up Freshly Pressed!
On that last note… Wow, what an influence that has on your blog’s reach! I’ll post more about this tomorrow, but suffice to say, in one day, all TheBoyEllis Blog stats have been smashed!
Thanks again.
May it be a long and productive partnership.
This is a great idea! Keep up the good work, and good luck!
I LOVE this idea! I usually read the Freshly Pressed daily, comment on them, listen to what’s up in the news and come up with something that I feel i NEED to write about. . .but I love the buddy idea. Congrats on being Freshly Pressed, it sounds like you’ve got a lot of people going.
oh I just noticed…you are a soccer fan, well football. Chelsea is my favorite team of all time. Of course I also dig and woot for Man Utd., Arsenal, Man. City and Liverpool. I love to see great football.
@Elizabeth There might still be people looking for a buddy. Check the comments to the blogging buddy post on The Daily Post and see if anyone has an unanswered request. That’s how I found this blog.
go on in and blog…tech and music is also my area to…I do mostly photography and cool series of post. I will try to follow along your blog and see what’s popping here.
@rawmultimedia

I never heard about the blogging buddy campaign! I’m a little out of the loop on WordPress news these days, and I wish I’d signed up. It would have been fun.
I’m doing Post a week, and as far as that goes, I’m doing quite well. I’ve posted twice this week and plan to post in the coming week as well.
Ashley, aka TheEverydayMuser
Congrats on being Freshly Pressed!
@theboyellis I’m not sure that “lucky” is the right word. 😉
I had no idea WP did this…going over there now. Thanks for the heads up! And congrats on making FP!
Awesome 🙂 Enjoy the experience and good luck with your blog!
I think this is a pretty cool idea!! Thanks for sharing 🙂 I may have to get a blogging buddy too!
I agree the key is being inspired,a nd after that its the energy to actually log-on. I am goign to go sign up for a buddy now. Great post. What I Wore:Liquid Lace Up Leggings and Metal Shoulder Shirt http://wp.me/p11rPI-8p
Wish I knew about the BlogBuddy. Great concept. Maybe I can just be inspired by the 2 of you-good luck!
Great to hear about your new-found friend from the blosphere. I feel fortunate enough to have friends who read my blog regularly, as I do theirs–an organically formed community that’s mutually supportive and inspiring-
Wishing the same for you,
Kathy
Very cool concept! My girlfriend and I have an unspoken buddy system; whenever I see she posts, it motivates me to post. We may not have the exact same topics or writing styles, but knowing at least one person out there reads what I write is motivation enough 🙂
Good luck on your blogging!
Well congratulations on your new buddy…My blog seems to be making more enemies than buddies. But…” that’s the way uh huh uh huh I like it uh huh uh huh”
This is exactly why I love blogging – and checking out other people’s blogs- you get to meet cool like-minded people from around the world. Congrats on your new buddy- and Chris’s site looks cool as well!
Good luck and happy blogging!
I totally missed the BlogBuddy post! Thanks for the post, and good look to you two like-minded gentlemen!
Great idea w/c was well-performed! Been busy for blogging lately tho
Wow, indeed I have! Thanks for pointing out, Mikalee. Mind you, Chris is the lucky one to get his face freshly pressed!
How did I miss this idea? What an awesome concept…
Thanks for opening my eyes to new opportunity. And hey, guess what, something must’ve worked: You’ve been Freshly Pressed.
Yay you! 🙂
I’ve found a few blog-buddies with similar interests as I through The Daily Post too. But more importantly I found blogs with topics and content that I personally would love to read even if mine is not their forte. Half the battle of blogging has been feeling INSPIRED to write – and reading other people who are sticking to it with fresh new ideas, or topics I can learn from is apart of that. 🙂
Cheers.
Congrats you have a buddy. I wish you determination, focus and success by the time you publish your last post of the year 2011. 🙂
